Hatha Yoga is the latest service available at VLE Health & Fitness Studio.
The Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga system is a rigorous or sometimes gentle practice and can be comparable to the training of an elite athlete.
Consisting of 240 postures and hundreds of variations, done in six successive series (vinyasa) linked by the breath, Ashtanga Yoga represents the most intensive form of Hatha Yoga.
The purpose of this continual flow of action is to create heat, which produces a cleansing or detoxifying effect on the body. Ashtanga places equal emphasis on strength, flexibility and stamina.
Many fitness enthusiasts who thrive on intensive workouts, like this style of Yoga. This style is often called ‘Power Yoga’.
Hatha Yoga is the gentler version of Ashtanga and you will have the option to choose which one of these styles you prefer.
Things that you should know and follow for Yoga:
Don’t eat for at least 2 hours before your practice. Yoga is best performed on an empty stomach. First thing in the morning is ideal!
Don’t drink water throughout your practice. Yoga is designed to heat the body internally and whole you are heating, it is a shock to the body to instantly cool it…The heat should cool down naturally…If you overheat during your practice, take some cooling breaths over the tongue instead of through the nose.
Milk is important for your diet. This aids your central nervous system and will help you sleep at night.
Only go as far as your body will physically let you…there is always tomorrow.
Muscles may become sore, so a good bath, and/or self massage (ideal with some muscle balm) are ideal to help manage the discomfort.
Always take Savasana (resting pose), at the end of your practice. This gives the body and the mind a chance to reconnect.
Pilates
Developed in the 1920's by the legendary physical trainer, Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates method is a set of principles and movements designed to dramatically improve strength, flexibility, posture and coordination. Pilates combines awareness of the spine, proper breathing, and strength and flexibility training to achieve slimmer, longer, stronger muscles...without building bulk.
Goal specific and time effective, Pilates is a low impact exercise mode for any level of fitness. Often referred to as a 'thinking persons workout', concentration and focus enables you to isolate muscles and fine-tune movements, encouraging your body to reach its full potential.
With Pilates, you learn how to control and improve your posture, as well as learning specific breathing techniques to help maximise abdominal control and strength. Pilates invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.
Pilates caters for everyone, from the beginner to the advanced. Exercises can be performed using your own body weight, or with the aid of various pieces of equipment. A typical Pilates workout would include a number of exercises performed at low repetitions in sets of 5 to 10, with a session lasting approximately 60 minutes. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and abdominal control.
Benefits of Pilates:
Improves posture and body awareness
Helps maintain and increase a healthy body both inside and out
Low impact program
The powerhouse - the abdomen, lower back and buttocks - are supported and strengthened
Engages body and mind through concentration of each muscle movement
Focuses on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk
VLE Health & Fitness Studio have a long association with Capoeira (VLE founder Dom, taught, studied and performed Capoeira in Australia, Brazil, and Spain for 1/3 of his life)
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of Martial Arts, Music, Dance and Acrobatics.
The ritual and/or game of Capoeira is where participants form a roda (circle), and take turns either playing musical instruments, singing, or ritually sparring in pairs in the center of the circle.
Fluid acrobatic play, feints, takedowns, and extensive use of leg sweeps, and kicks mark the sparring.
Capoeira's origin dates back 500 years to the beginnings of Brazil's slave trade period. Throughout the 488 year slave trade the Congo, Bantu, and Angolan tribes met and intermingled in the slave quarters and in the escaped-slave regions.
From this intermingling of cultures came a melding of traditions and rituals, and Capoeira was born.
What police once outlawed is now an international phenomenon. Across the globe in fitness circles, artist communities, on print and television film we see Capoeira's legacy.
In the last few years, Capoeira has taken the world by storm.
In Australia it is in demand, rapidly becoming the most sought-after art form and means of creative self-expression.
